Wrong Voltage!!

Youngling Posts: 2 Join Date: 2/3/10 Recent Posts
I have plugged my 8020's that I bought in Canada into the mains here in the United Arab Emirates (230v) and heard a loud humming noise. Quickly unplugged them and discovered to my horror that they are 120v only.

Is there a fuse I can replace or do they need servicing?

Thanks,

Julian

Hi Julian,

I am afraid your speakers need authorized servicing. The units have fixed voltage power supply, which means that when you plug them into 230V mains the DC voltages inside the electronics are doubled, which may have caused damage. It is best to check the units. Then, to match them to your local voltage you either need a sufficient power rating step-down transformer 230v/120V, or the authorized service needs to change 230V mains transformers to your units. This may take some time, depending on whether they have those in stock.

I am very sorry for this inconvenience and hope your units can be put back to playing very soon.

Best regards,

Ilpo
