How loud will they go without damage?

How loud can you play with your 6010a without harming the speakers? Will the ears suffer first or? Why I'm asking is because I will use these as allround speakers and when having a party, things usually gets loud. So how high can they go without any damage at all? 100% windows volume sounds a bit high but, something around 50%?

Hello,

All Genelec speakers have a so called protection circuit which protects the speaker from overloading (SPL). So in other words you can't hurt them with too high SPL. :) If you turn them really high, you can probably hear them starting to distort a bit, and if pushed even higher, the output will temporarily drop slightly due to the activation of the protection circuit. It might be difficult to notice this with typical music material but with a constant noise like pink noise it's easier to pick up.

I could also tell that each speaker design is tested during the design phase by playing IEC weighted pink noise at full blast at least for 16 hours straight! Yes, one six hours. If the design isn't strong enough to handle this, it will be redesigned.

That was something new to me. So in other words, it is not possible to break or harm these speakers when playing to loud?

:)

Correct, they are designed to be bulletproof in that sense. :)

This is a relief. I just got a pair of 8010a and have been loving them at moderate volume for a few weeks. Tonight I accidentally reset my soundcard while the speakers and a microphone were plugged in, this made volume jump to 100% and caused of mic feedback loop loud enough to wake up neighbors lol. I was shocked how loud the 8010 can get for their size, and the amount of bass that I heard come out of them. It only lasted maybe 5 seconds before I reached for the power buttons on the back, but It sounded like the feedback went through multiple series of distortion as it grew in intensity. I guess I heard some of the protection circuit kicking in. Glad I found this thread to calm my nerves a bit cheers!
