Thank you for all the years of Community discussions and activity!

The time has come for us to retire the community forums, but we will keep everything available for reading. There is a lot of valuable content written over the years, and you'll be able to access all of that. However, no new posts can be written, or old posts modified.

If you have questions, we recommend you use the Support function on the bottom right corner to contact our Customer Support directly.

Alternatively, if you wish to engage in a community discussion with other people, there are many active forums available. There is also an active, fan managed GENELEC COMMUNITY in Facebook, and many Genelec employees are active in the discussions there.

We are sorry for any possible inconvenience this may cause you, but we hope to hear from you through the other channels mentioned above.

Power On/Off Thump/Plop?

I'm considering to buy either the 8351, 8341 or 8340 with SAM/GLM. They will be connected to an AC power strip and will be switched on/off with the switch on that power strip. Any thumps/plops when I do that?

Hi Iewin,

Sorry for late reply. Shutting monitors down from power strip can cause small plop sound to the monitors. If proper power strip is used, it doesn't damage the monitors and can be used like you said.

All the models you mentioned also have ISS power saving mode, and using power strip to switch them off is not necessery.

Thanks for your answer; two questions remain:

- You say there is a plop when switching OFF. Even if they are switched off  while in power savings mode?

- Is there a plop when switching them ON via the power strip?

- If the monitors are off or in standby mode, they won't emit any sound.

- There will probably be a small sound when the monitors power on, but if is difficult to judge whether you would find it offensive or not.
