Use 8240A with 7261A (SE) + GLM 2.0

Hi, i currently own the 7261A sub and 8130 (SE) system with the new GLM 2.0 management interface and software.

Im looking to build a studio with friends and we would prefer to have bigger speakers than the 8130's. So we are looking at the 6.5 inch + sub.

Would the 8240's (or 8340's) be compatible with my 7261 sub? I have the new GLM 2.0 interface and software. I noticed the documentation says they are with the 7260, but no mention of the 7261.

Help would be appreciated before purchasing, thanks

Hi!

We suggest, that the 7261A subwoofer is used only with 8130A loudspeakers as a system, if you want to use the integrated bass management filtering features in the subwoofer.

Best Regards, Markus

Is there much differences between the 7260 and 7261? Would it not work at all?

As the other option would be to purchase a non-SAM sub which is aprox same price as the 8240's. So i would prefer to have the bass management and autocal etc.

Hi,

There are some fundamental differences between 7260A and 7261A subwoofer. Acoustic performance, enclosure, amplifier wise they are identical but when it comes to the signal processing, they are very different. 7261A was a part of already past GLM.SE (small environment) system which was sort of a trickled-down version of the full GLM system. It was designed to function only with 8130A monitors and nothing else. We also used to have totally different version of the GLM software which only supported this system.

Since the introduction of GLM 2.0, we do not have a separate GLM.SE software anymore and the 7261A and 8130A monitors can be calibrated with GLM 2 or GLM 3 software.

Thanks for the info
I seen another forum post explaining the difference in DSP technology between the SE and the normal DSP.

If what i understand is correct, the 8240’s have DSP in each monitor, and the 7261 sub only has the DSP for the SE system.

As i won’t be able to purchase the monitors and the subwoofer at once. If i was to purchase just the 8240’s:
Would it work if i was to connect the 8261 and the GLM was to control the subwoofer. And then the GLM software corrects the 8240 monitors independently?
As a temporary solution until i then purchase the 8360 sub, or would it not work at all?

Or if i was to purchase the 8360 sub, would i be able to use the GLM software for just the sub and then use 8040 normal with a bass rolloff? (without DSP)

Thanks for your time

Hi,

You could connect and calibrate 8240A and 7261A separately but the problem is that since they do not know of each other, subwoofer crossover, level and phase calibration won't work. I would not recommend doing this. Also, using bass roll-off setting on the 8240A is not same as using real crossover filter.

Your best option is to get the 7360A which will work as a system with any of our SAM series monitors.
