Thank you for all the years of Community discussions and activity!

The time has come for us to retire the community forums, but we will keep everything available for reading. There is a lot of valuable content written over the years, and you'll be able to access all of that. However, no new posts can be written, or old posts modified.

If you have questions, we recommend you use the Support function on the bottom right corner to contact our Customer Support directly.

Alternatively, if you wish to engage in a community discussion with other people, there are many active forums available. There is also an active, fan managed GENELEC COMMUNITY in Facebook, and many Genelec employees are active in the discussions there.

We are sorry for any possible inconvenience this may cause you, but we hope to hear from you through the other channels mentioned above.

Distortion in 7060 Sub

Padawan Posts: 28 Join Date: 5/13/16 Recent Posts

Hi,
when tried to find my 7060 Subs limits I did turn off my satellites and listen to what happens if I increase the volume until the sub’s protection circuits would kick in and the power led would turn red.
I never got to that point, because the sub started to heavily distort on peaks above a certain level.
Since I couldn’t hear that with the satellites turned on, I do now wonder if that  is normal behaviour, or if the protection circuit should normally kick in before distortion?

Hi Raoulst,

Subwoofer protection should kick in before heavy distortion starts. I would recommend you to test the subwoofer with sine wave generator/online tone generator and listen to frequencies 29-85 with high volumes to see if any distortion is hearable.

You can find free online tone generator from this link as example: http://www.szynalski.com/tone-generator/

If you are unsure, please take a video and send it to service@genelec.com and we can take a look and give better estimate then.
