Hey Genelec community
I've been fascinated by genelec speakers for quite some time now. When I first read about the GLM technology a couple month ago, I was totally blown away by its idea. Since then, I'm really looking forward to own some genelecs in the near future.
A couple of weeks ago, I went to a music store near by and had the chance to hear the 8030 and 8040 in a store. I really liked the midrange and punch of the 8030 (I mainly listen to rock and metal music. So the low end is not that excessive as EDM etc) Based on these facts, I lean towards the 8330. But since a couple of weeks, I also thought to wait a couple of month, save money and go for the 8331.
And that is basically my dilemma: 8330 versus 8331 for my needs? or maybe: is the 8331 so much better?
I know, it's quite unfair to compare these two, since the 8331 is a whole different "beast". And yes I already learned: you get what you pay for. So it thought I share my needs and would love to get some feedbacks and experiences from all of you. PS: I think my local genelec dealer can show me both speakers and i even can test them at home. I definitely will do that! But I'm also very curious what you guys will recommend me.
so here are my needs:
On one hand, I wanna use the speakers for "hifi" usage at my apartment. But I aim for a flat frequency response as possible, so that I get to know the music like it was mixed. Since the appartment is rented and "the woman factor" is there as well, I can't really threat the room acoustically. But I think with the GLM Technology I can make the best out of the worst (rooms). Here i think the 8331 would be awesome since the stereo image must be outstanding.
On the other hand, I more and more get into recording and i would like to use the same speakers for mixing some further projects (Please note: I am quite a beginner here). The recording environment is acoustically threated quite well. I think the GLM technology will be the cherry on the top. I also tell myself that I really could benefit from the coaxical construcion of the 8331 in this situation.
So what would you suggest?
- Get the 8330, gather experience as listener and mixing engineer and then consider some 83x1 speakers?
- Or should I sell my soul and organs so that i can get the 8331?
All the best and I hope to hear from all of you soon!
